Štěpán Rak a Jan Matěj Rak: koncert k 80. narozeninám

Štěpán Rak (1945) is known primarily as a guitarist, composer and improviser. At the concert he will present himself in all these artistic areas. The so-called “Rak's tremolo” has become a term in the guitar world. It uses the technique of playing with all five fingers of the right hand on one or more strings simultaneously. In 1982, Štěpán Rak founded the guitar department at the Prague Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where he currently mainly teaches improvisation. And it is this art that you will be able to appreciate throughout the concert. Professor Štěpán Rak's lifelong endeavor is to present the guitar not only as a solo instrument, but also as an orchestra.

Jan-Matěj Rak (1977), singer-songwriter, enthusiastic amateur astronomer, great photographer and creative soul full of ideas. He mastered the difficult task of arranging Jaroslav Ježek's music for solo guitar, including such masterpieces as Bugatti Step or Three Constables. His arrangements of Baroque music, as well as Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana, are also remarkable. He will play these compositions on a unique historical guitar from 1830.

He has been performing with his father Štěpán Rak for years, and their concerts RAK and RAK are characterized by originality and always offer numerous surprises. Many songs are given their final form directly on stage, so the audience always has something to look forward to. And this concert will be no different.
