Volary Alpine Architecture

Memorable timbered houses of alpine mountaineers.

The town of Volary was once inhabited by a community of alpine mountaineers who were known for the construction of massive timbered houses with a distinct flat roof. The houses are a protected monument and are now used for recreational purposes (houses No. 41 and No. 81) and for permanent residence. In some houses it is possible to see the interior. These include the Volary City Museum, which offers a permanent exhibition of Alpine architecture and the City Store.
