The Gentle SIN exhibition connects contemporary art with medieval artifacts and opens up the theme of beauty as a space of tension between spiritual symbolism and aesthetic pleasure. The central medium is glass, which has fascinated for centuries with its abilities.
Contemporary artists represented in the SIN Studio Gallery collection (including Arik Levy, Krištof Kintera, Milan Knížák, Richard Štipl, Rony Plesl) are developing the unique Vitrum Vivum technology, which enables the creation of works that exceed the usual standards of traditional glass sculpture.
A significant part of the exhibition is a collection of medieval sculptures and paintings. Fragments of glass applications have been preserved on some of them. These elements recall the ancient effort to increase the spiritual effect and illusion of spiritual art through noble materials. At the same time, they refer to medieval discussions about the appropriateness of artistic forms. The title of the exhibition points to the ambiguity of experience – beauty, which is perceived as a means of spiritual elevation and at the same time as a possible temptation leading away from the essence. Glass, which carries the ability to refract and scatter light, appears here as a metaphor for spiritual transformation and a reminder of the ambivalence of sensory experience.
The exhibition takes place at the Castle Riding School in Hluboká nad Vltavou from January 18 to May 10, 2026
