The new Palace of Illustration in the castle Mint building invites you to visit the world of book illustration from July 1, 2025 .
Stop by the Baroque palace in the 2nd castle courtyard and discover a story that resembles a fairy tale. Except that it really happened. The story of illustrations, their collectors, the story of children's books and a palace that you won't find anywhere else. You will see illustrations that have traveled the world, captivated the Spanish king and the Japanese empress. The collection of illustrations includes almost 800 works by dozens of illustrators and hundreds of children's books. Come and see a few of them, discover the story behind them, and enjoy the most beautiful view of the city.
Illustrations intended primarily for children's books were created especially in the second half of the 20th century - a time when work was done slowly, by hand, and with immense care. The entire Palace of Illustration project was created with the same care - with the aim of creating a space where you will want to return , where you can calmly view the original illustrations and discover the story behind them.
Palace illustration. Like in a fairy tale. But for real.

Collection of illustrations
Almost 800 works by 33 illustrators from all over Europe, hundreds of children's books, dozens of exhibition catalogues. A European unique, a representative cross-section of techniques and the best work of the second half of the 20th century. Gró presents illustrations that are related to the activities of the Bohem Press publishing house. It was based on perfect craftsmanship of books, great illustrations and stories, and the opening of taboo topics (environmental protection, death, drugs). The most famous authors include Józef Wilkoń, David McKee, Jan Lenica, Stasys Eidrigevičius or Štěpán Zavřel.
