Muzejní noc 2024

The South Bohemian Museum cordially invites you to the next Museum Night! The traditional event for all age groups with a rich accompanying program takes place on Friday, May 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the main building of the South Bohemian Museum (Dukelská 1, České Budějovice). Admission to the event is FREE!

This year's Museum Night takes place as part of a series of events organized on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the death of Jan Žižka from Trocnov. What can you look forward to?

The "second" life of Jan Žižka

What was Jan Žižka really like? Was he a fearless warlord, fighting against the corrupt church, for Czech national rights? Was he a thief, a rapist and a murderer? A brave knight defending the weak and poor against the powerful and rich? A warrior gifted with supernatural powers that he imparted to trees, rocks, objects he touched? We can neither confirm nor deny any of this with certainty today. The only thing that is certain is that Jan Žižka has remained in our consciousness for centuries. Its symbolism was used and abused by many, and its image took on a life of its own during that time. And it is precisely this "second" life that is brought closer to the new exhibition.
