The recent winner of the Anděl Prize - Alf Carlsson/Jiří Kotača Quartet - is a joint project of Swedish guitarist Alf Carlsson and Czech trumpeter Jiří Kotača. These two award-winning musicians were brought together by their studies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and six months after their return to their native countries, by Alfa's planned trip to the Czech Republic, which eventually became a short string and then a regular band. The quartet released their highly acclaimed second album Our Stories in 2024. And as leading music journalist Milan Bátor writes: "This album meets the highest standards of the world's active approach to jazz." Their music mixes everything they love, i.e. influences of lyrical Scandinavian music and modern jazz with a pinch of R'n'B, hip hop, pop and rock. All of this, colored by live electronics, creates a unique sound combination of this band, which emphasizes sonic diversity and strong melodies. Alf Carlsson composed music for the Nobel Peace Prize and Jiří Kotača is the recipient of the Anděl Prize and the Czech Jazz Harvest Prize. The band duo was complemented by the most sought-after Slovak jazzmen of the young generation - Peter Korman on double bass/bass and Kristián Kuruc on drums. The band played dozens of concerts at jazz festivals and clubs in Sweden, Bulgaria, Austria, Italy, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
