About the Festival
A new kind of cultural experience is coming to Český Krumlov – the Cirkusové meandry festival. Behind its creation stands the town of Český Krumlov and, above all, the team behind Prague’s iconic Letní Letná festival, which has been shaping the contemporary circus scene and broadening horizons in the Czech Republic for two decades.
Contemporary circus is attracting an ever-growing audience across all generations. As a modern form of theatre, it blends acrobatics, dance, physical theatre, live music, and visual arts. The performances are often wordless and yet deeply moving – offering not only suspense and the beauty of movement, but also emotion, humour, and moments for reflection.
The festival brings the very best of the Czech contemporary circus scene to Český Krumlov – including the award-winning Losers Cirque Company, known for its precise acrobatics and visually stunning shows, and Cirk La Putyka, a company that receives ovations at home and abroad. Also featured is Cirko Hopley with Teacrobat, a playful mix of cooking and acrobatics that delights audiences of all ages. Its creator, Michal Mudrák, was awarded the Danish Ministry of Culture’s Den Danske Cirkuspris and nominated for the 2024 Thalia Award.
Special attention is given to the children’s programme. Don’t expect classic fairy tales, but rather playful, interactive, and artistically rich performances that spark imagination and surprise with their originality. Children can also take part in circus workshops, games, and creative activities – making this not just a passive experience, but a truly immersive one.
Cirkusové meandry is more than just a festival – it’s a space for connection, curiosity, and inspiration. Right in the heart of the town, a circus village will spring to life in the City Park during the festival. In addition to big tops and theatre tents, you’ll find a relaxed zone under the trees, full of good food and drinks – a place where audiences, artists, families, and curious passersby can come together. Cirkusové meandry invites you not only to the shows, but also to enjoy a pleasant afternoon or evening in the park.
