The system of 7 fountains in Hořice na Šumavě

Historical water supply system of the town.

The system of seven fountains served for supplying the town with water from the wells above Hořice. In the 18th century, a statue of St. John of Nepomuk was built at one of the fountains.

Hořice is supplied with water from three wells above the town, distributed through the fountains in the square, the number of which gradually rose to seven. The system is cleverly designed especially in the event of a fire, when it is possible to let the water from the local pond flow into the water supply system and to draw water from the fountains.
