Observatory and Planetarium České Budějovice

The second oldest folk observatory in Bohemia.

Located about 300 meters from the square of Přemysl Otakar II. in the park at the confluence of the Vltava and Malše rivers.

The Observatory and Planetarium is dedicated to the popularization of astronomy and related disciplines for the general public, extracurricular education for all types of schools, observation of the sun and the night sky. It also organizes exhibitions, audiovisual programs, lectures.

The Observatory has, as its branch, the Observatory at Kleť, which provides a world-class scientific program for monitoring comets and asteroids. For the public, there are tours of this observatory, the observation of the sun, and exhibitions of astronomical photographs.. 

Historically, the observatory is the second oldest and was first opened in 1937.
