Museum of Gold in Nový Knín

Get to know the history of gold mining and processing in the region of Nový Knín.

The museum is located on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square and is housed in a building that used to be a mint in the 15th century. Nový Knín was known for the processing of extracted gold, which was subsequently moved to the mints in Prague and Kutná Hora. The museum is also an information center and materials from the Brdy-Vltava region are available here.

The expositions introduce the development of mining and processing of gold up to the 20th century, and the history of Nový Knín. We also find information about industry, crafts and gold panning.

The jewel of the exhibition's archaeological section is the Viking Bracelet from Nový Knín, which dates back to the 11th century.

On the way along the nature trails around Nový Knín, tourists can observe the remains of mining activities and collect information on geology and mining.
